THE BRIEF
In November 2015, Quadrant announced the acquisition of Urban Casual Dining (renamed from Urban Purveyor Group) from founder John Szangolies. UCD is the leading vertically integrated Australian hospitality group which has developed a portfolio of well position brands including Sake, Munich Brauhaus and Bavarian Bier Café. Founded in 1976, UCD employs over 1,200 people throughout Australia.
OUR APPROACH
Quadrant was attracted to UCD due its leading restaurant brands, attractive market fundamentals and trends for casual dining, roll-out opportunities and attractive growth opportunities.
Our investment thesis is focussed on roll out of restaurants, development of new brands and concepts, improving like-for-like and operational performance and drive investment in key management and systems.
So far, Quadrant has achieved a number of strategic and operational improvements including
- Successful roll-out of a Bavarian Bier Café in Sydney, Sake in Melbourne and El Camino in Sydney
- Creation and successful supply of craft beers into UCD restaurants with potential to supply to third-parties
- Acquisition and integration of the Fratelli Group of restaurants
- Investments into the management team including branding and operations
